Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Lima!

Your unforgettable journey through Peru begins today – a country celebrated for its world-renowned gastronomy, rich culture, and vibrant history.

Upon arrival at Lima’s international airport, a friendly Peru & U representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel, located in either the modern, seaside district of Miraflores or the charming, bohemian neighborhood of Barranco.

During your transfer, you’ll receive a briefing about your upcoming adventure, with time to ask any questions you may have. Once at your hotel, take some time to settle in, relax, and soak in the energy of this exciting capital city as you prepare for the incredible experiences ahead.

Day 2: Lima Cooking Class & Cultural Discovery (B, D)

After breakfast, you’ll begin exploring the many faces of Peru’s bustling capital. Lima is a city where colonial architecture, pre-Columbian history, and contemporary life blend seamlessly.

Later, immerse yourself in Peru’s world-renowned culinary scene with a hands-on cooking class. Learn to prepare traditional favorites like ceviche and lomo saltado, and master the art of mixing a perfectly balanced pisco sour. Whether you’re a foodie or just curious, this experience will give you a delicious taste of Peru’s culinary soul.

Day 3: From the Coast to the Andes (B)

After enjoying breakfast in your hotel, you will be picked up and brought to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival in this historic city, a representative from Peru & U will be waiting to greet you and escort you to your accommodation.

During your transfer, your itinerary will be reviewed in detail, and any questions you may have will be answered.

The rest of the day is yours to relax and begin acclimating to Cusco’s high altitude. Stay hydrated and enjoy your first glimpse of this fascinating city at your own pace.

Day 4: Sacred Valley Discover & Train to Aguas Calientes (B, L)

Today, you’ll visit two of the Sacred Valley’s most remarkable sites: the Maras Salt Mines and the Moray Circular Terraces.

Start with the stunning Maras Salt Mines, over 3,000 shimmering ponds carved into the mountainside, still harvested by local families using centuries-old techniques. This dazzling patchwork of white and gold is both visually striking and culturally rich.

Next, explore the fascinating Moray terraces, a masterpiece of Inca agricultural engineering. These circular depressions created microclimates that allowed for advanced crop experimentation, showcasing the ingenuity of Inca innovation.

After a morning of exploration, enjoy lunch at a delicious restaurant in the Sacred Valley.

Following lunch, transfer to Ollantaytambo to board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and prepare for your visit to Machu Picchu tomorrow.

OPTIONAL: For added adrenaline or tranquility, inquire about our Moray & Maras ATV or horseback riding tours.

Day 5: Machu Picchu - The Lost City of the Incas (B)

After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and board the shuttle bus to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Perched high in the cloud forest, this UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the most iconic archaeological wonders in the world.

Accompanied by your expert guide, embark on a fascinating journey through the ancient citadel. As you walk among its temples, terraces, and sacred spaces, your guide will bring to life the legends, history, and mysteries that surround this breathtaking site. Don’t miss the opportunity to ascend to one of the panoramic viewpoints for a spectacular view over the ruins and surrounding peaks.

Following your guided visit, return by bus to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll board the train back to Cusco. Upon arrival at the station, a Peru & U representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel.

You’ll arrive in Cusco by evening, with the rest of the day free to relax or explore the charming cobblestone streets of this historic city at your own pace.

Day 6: Humantay Lake - A Journey into the Andes (B, L)

Today begins with an early pickup from your hotel for a 2.5-hour drive to the village of Mollepata, where you’ll enjoy a warm breakfast. From there, continue to Soraypampa, the starting point of the Salkantay Trek, with stunning views of the Salkantay and Humantay mountains.

The hike to Humantay Lake takes about 1.5 hours at a moderate pace. For those who prefer, horses are available to rent (at an additional cost). At the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the emerald lake, surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Take time to enjoy the incredible views, take photos, and participate in an optional offering to Pachamama (Mother Earth).

After some rest, descend back to Soraypampa, where a hearty lunch awaits. Then return to Cusco, with the evening free to relax or explore at your leisure.

Day 7: Scenic Coach to Puno (B)

After breakfast at your hotel, a Peru & U representative will escort you to the bus station, where you’ll board a comfortable tourist coach bound for Puno. This scenic journey across the Altiplano – an expansive, high-altitude plateau shared by Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile – is considered one of the most beautiful routes in the country.

Along the way, enjoy several cultural and scenic stops, including fascinating museums, ancient Inca ruins, and traditional Andean villages. These breaks offer a deeper insight into the region’s rich heritage, and a chance to stretch your legs!

A highlight of the trip is reaching the route’s highest point at 4,319 meters (14,170 feet), where you can pause to take in the breathtaking views and capture unforgettable photos.

Upon arrival in Puno, a Peru & U representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel for a well-deserved evening of rest.

Day 8: Lake Titicaca - Culture, Traditions & Island Life (B, L)

Today promises a journey of connection, discovery, and deep cultural insight as you explore the legendary Lake Titicaca – the highest navigable lake in the world and the largest in South America.
After a nourishing breakfast, you’ll set out on a full-day boat tour across the sparkling blue waters of this sacred lake. Your first stop is the fascinating Uros Floating Islands, handwoven entirely from totora reeds. These islands are home to the Uros people, who built them centuries ago to escape threats from rival communities. You’ll be warmly welcomed by locals who will share their way of life and even invite you on a ride in one of their traditional reed boats.
The journey continues to Taquile Island, a peaceful place where time seems to stand still. Here, life is simple and sustainable, rooted in ancient agricultural practices and communal living. As you explore the island with your guide, you’ll learn about its rich traditions, including its unique textile art, which is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
A traditional lunch will be served, made with fresh, local ingredients grown and harvested on the island. In the afternoon, you’ll return to Puno, your heart full from a day immersed in the warmth, culture, and living heritage of Lake Titicaca.

Day 9: Farewell & Departure (B)

It’s hard to say goodbye to Cusco, a city that leaves lasting memories – but as your incredible journey comes to an end, you’ll take with you unforgettable experiences and the spirit of Peru in your heart.

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, a Peru & U representative will transfer you to the airport at the appropriate time based on your flight schedule. You’ll then board your flight to Lima, where you’ll connect with your international departure.
